Many pieces of clothing have transcended their original purpose and landed themselves as iconic pieces in the world of style and fashion. The Denim jacket is one of them. Also known as the Trucker jacket to Japanese denim enthusiasts, the denim jacket is a symbol of American fashion and style made famous by many actors and actresses. Thank you Levis Strauss, and oh yes, they are also called jean jackets. Denim jackets are very versatile and can be dressed up or worn casually. Some have a relaxed fit, while others are more fitted for a more contemporary look. Quality denim is hard to find, yet here are a few ways to make sure you purchase a quality denim jacket.
Great denim material will last a long time. Long enough for you to pass it down for a generation or two as a fantastic vintage item. If you select a raw denim jacket, make sure the denim uses long-staple cotton. Just like t-shirts, long-staple cotton is rare and is of higher quality than shorter staple cotton. Next, look for the stitching of the garment. Is it clean and compact? Are the buttons attached, or are they flimsy when you button up or unbutton the jacket? If any of these fail, then your jacket may not be one made with quality.
Additionally, look at the color. If it is impressively even, then you have a problem. The color should be a bit uneven, and it should be rigid when you pick it up. Selvedge denim is a good quality fabric and indicator of a quality-made jacket. Lastly, where the denim is from is an excellent indication of quality, especially regarding selvedge denim. Two places in the world hold the best denim. Japan and Italy. Note there are rumors of a great Chicago-based company making great selvedge denim. When I confirm, I will share it with you.
